That's me, Mat Falco, eating one of my favorite foods, a muffaletta. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a muffaletta in Philadelphia. That is part of the reason for this website. I was browsing the web one day looking for a place to find one, and I was unsuccessful. It got me thinking, there really aren't any good restaurant review websites in Philadelphia.
We live in a city that is filled with amazing places to eat, but unless you have a lot of time and the money to spend, it's really hard to find them. I'm not talking about the Steven Starr restaurants or the Le Bec Fin's, there are hundreds of websites dedicated to the upper echelon of high class gourmet. I'm talking about the true heart and soul restaurants of Philadelphia. The ones which are owned by the everyday common man/woman of Philadelphia who serve up the same food they serve in their kitchen at home. You know the kind of place where you walk in and the staff remembers who you are and treat you like family instead of worshipping you cause you have the money to eat there. Now don't get me wrong, I like the fancy places too. The creative genius behind some of the food they serve is often unparalleled and from time to time I will review them as well.
I am making it my goal to eat and review as much of local Philadelphia as I can, from an everyday persons point of view. I never went to school for the culinary arts, or even professionally cooked. I have just always had a passion for quality food. I grew up in a home where quality food was greatly appreciated and served. From the age of like 14, cooking has been one of my favorite pastimes. Being in the kitchen and coming up with a creative new recipe that actually tastes good, is an immensely satisfying feeling. Walking down the street and coming across a little corner restaurant that ends up serving great food is equally satisfying, and that is why i want to share my findings with the rest of Philadelphia.
There's nothing that makes a person happier than just stuffing yourself on an awesome meal, especially when you didn't have to spend a fortune on it. So hopefully this website makes people as happy as it makes me to create it. Oh, and give me time Philly. I know I only have a few reviews up right not, but I'll do my best to add at least one every week so keep checking back, and keep eating Philadelphia!
