The Irish Pol
3rd between Market and Chestnut
With 40 beers on tap, it’s pretty hard to go wrong, unless you’re a Millers Ale House and have the understanding that more taps means you need to have more Leinenkugel products. The Irish Pol however, gets the beer options right. Of the 40 on tap, there are only about five that are major breweries. The other 35 range from an excessive amount of Magic Hat beers (5 at a time) to selections from Stone, Weyerbacher, Rogue, and other quality domestic micro-breweries. It’s a smaller bar with little seating, but it’s not a place you go to eat. I believe they have about 6 items on there food menu, which are just the basic hot wings, mozzarella sticks, french fries, etc... There’s live music from time to time upstairs from what I hear, but it doesn’t seem like the type of bar that ever gets to crowded or rowdy. I stopped by on Saint Patty’s day and there were less than 15 people there. Sunday nights are the best night to go though. Most all the drafts (I think they exclude barley wines) are $3 and they have $3 shots. It’s a cheap, relaxing night of good beer that I highly recommend, and while you’re there buy Missy, the bartender, a shot of Jamesons and you’ll probably be on her good side the rest of the night.
