Frankford and Devereaux

As far as beer bars go in Philadelphia, Grey Lodge is probably king, if not it’s damn close to it. There are many bars in the area that serve great beer, and there are tons of bars that have more tap handles, but there is something about the Lodge that just makes it stand out amongst the rest. Maybe it’s the fact that only having ten beers on tap causes kegs to change over quicker, almost guaranteeing a new beer every visit, no matter how close together they are. It could also be the fact that half the beers on tap are beers that other bars wouldn’t even consider putting on because they are not respected styles. Grey Lodge will put on just about any micro-brew they can get there hands on, and because of this they have formed great relationships with many breweries and they get all of the rarest beers because of this. Not only do they get rare beers, I’ve seen many beers custom brewed just for the Grey Lodge. So yes, they may have a few beers on tap that have awful reviews on Rate Beer, but they also will have some of the best brews going right along side of them. Also, some of those poorly reviewed beers end up being a lot better than expected and how else are you gonna try them so you can bash them on-line. They also have a nice rotating bottle selection of 20 or so styles. While you’re there check out the food menu. Its very simple and on the small side but everything is quality and the french fries are great.
